I interview past guest Jessica Hersh. We talk about how grief has affected people during the COVID pandemic, as well as how grief has come up recently in pop culture.
Jessica opens up and shares what it was like losing her mother to cancer how that influenced feelings she had during quarantine. We talk about how hard the holidays were this past year missing loved ones, and how the pandemic overall has pushed everyone closer to their own thoughts of mortality. Jess herself came down with COVID and chronicles how serious her case was, even a multi-day hospital stay. We unpack that experience and explore what positives could come out of such a terrifying moment in time.
For the last half of the episode, we talk about some recent instances where grief has come up in pop culture, like how Carl Radke from Bravo’s reality TV show Summer House lost his brother to an overdose during filming. Carl had to grieve in front of the cameras many times, and Gianna and Jess make a point that Carl helped educate viewers on the natural grieving process. We also touch on how new Bachelorette Katie Thurston and artist Megan Thee Stallion have both had their losses on the main stage.
*Interview took place in March 2021*
